An exhibit, Oregon Trails, Rails and Roads in Sherman County, takes visitors from the first people who lived along the John Day, Columbia and Deschutes Rivers to early explorers and Oregon Trail travelers. Settlers’ horses and cattle grazed the bunch grass hills until farmers planted wheat. With the advent of motors and electricity, rural life changed dramatically, as shown in the exhibit, Cultivation, Conservation and Clothespins, complete with a combine, tractor, truck, car and power lines. Check out the farm windmill and wheat, oats and barley growing in livestock troughs. Take a walk on the rural side at the national-award-winning Sherman County Historical Museum in Moro. Pick up cycling or driving itineraries, or download them at http://www.co.sherman.or.us for a day of wide open spaces, small town shops, magnificent mountain vistas, wind farms, the Oregon Trail and vast fields of wheat. Make it a day to remember! Open daily from 10 until 5, May through October, next to City Park in Moro, Museum Hosts offer directions, maps, brochures and travel guides.
