Sherman County Historical Society Moro, Ore. – Telling your story in your community in your Museum, the Sherman County Historical Museum’s doors open for the season on May 1st. Family fun is part of the story! Gallop on Goldie! Grind wheat to flour! Camp in the tepee and make muslin rubbings of replica rock art. Dress up in pioneer vests or bonnets! Play the piano! Remember hopscotch? Clothespins?
An exhibit, Oregon Trails, Rails and Roads in Sherman County, takes visitors from the first people who lived along the John Day, Columbia and Deschutes Rivers to early explorers and Oregon Trail travelers. Settlers’ horses and cattle grazed the bunch grass hills until farmers planted wheat. With the advent of motors and electricity, rural life changed dramatically, as shown in the exhibit, Cultivation, Conservation and Clothespins, complete with a combine, tractor, truck, car and power lines. Check out the farm windmill and wheat, oats and barley growing in livestock troughs. Take a walk on the rural side at the national-award-winning Sherman County Historical Museum in Moro.
