Sherman County Historical Society and Museum Open Daily 10 until 5 May through October |
News Release. September 6, 2009
· A Pictorial Cancel is a “regular” cancellation for a stamp that is applied by hand stamp and instead of a normal circular date stamp and also will have some sort of illustration or decorative text. Normally, the additional material ties to the date of the cancellation, i.e., a show cancel, or a special event cancel honoring an historical event.
· A Cachet (pronounce ‘ka-shay’) is design printed or stamped on an envelope describing or commemorating an event. Cachets can be for any event, i.e., a first day of issue or historical event. · On Saturday, September 12 from 10 until 4, Postmaster Barb Henry and Sherman County Historical Society member Jim Siscel will be on hand at the Museum in Moro to provide commemorative pictorial cancellation and cachet envelopes that commemorate The Dalles Military Road. The Oregon 150 Statehood Wagon Train is following the route of The Dalles Military Road from Huntington to The Dalles. |
