Moro, Ore. -- Windmills and Wheat Fields, Sherman County’s scenic cycling itinerary through wind farms and amber waves of grain, offers over 50 moderate-to-challenging miles to 3,000 feet elevation.
Beginning at Rufus on I-84 on the Columbia River, the route climbs gently onto the plateau. As the terrain levels to rolling hills, cyclists see majestic views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. Options include starting from Moro and Grass Valley.
Cyclists enjoy low traffic roads except on Highway 97 which has mostly wide shoulders. All roads on the itinerary are paved and well-signed. Small town mom-and-pop shops, a national-award-winning museum, restaurants, camping, motels and markets offer amenities.
