Moro, OR – The Sherman County Historical Society Museum and Sherman County Commission on Children and Families are pleased to announce a summer arts day camp for youth the week of July 12-16.
This project is funded by grants from Sherman County Cultural Coalition and the Sherman County Commission on Children and Families. Janet Essley, an artist-in-residence from Columbia Gorge Arts in Education, will work with Sherman County youth to produce a public art mural.
This project is limited to six youth who completed grades 6 through 12 on a first-call basis. The young artists will be engaged in this project for two hours a day for five days.
Columbia Gorge Arts in Education is a non-profit organization providing arts education to K-12 school children in Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman counties in Oregon and Klickitat County in Washington. Janet Essley uses the mural format to transform ordinary spaces into works of art through community collaboration. She has worked with diverse groups of all ages to create murals throughout the Northwest, in California, New York, and Mexico. She holds a BFA from the University of Oregon and an MA from California State University Chico. She is an award winning painter and muralist and regularly exhibits her paintings and installations in alternative community settings.
