Stanley, Walter S.
February 1839 MI - August 1913 Orchards, WA; bookkeeper, cashier, Sherman County treasurer; in 1901 Capt. Stanley & Capt Trotter of Boise were only living survivors of famous Walker Expedition to Honduras in 1860; [Sherman County Observer, 22 August 1913].

Taylor, Samuel L.

Thompson, Isaac
20 September 1834 OH - July 1924; Co. D, 151st Regiment, Illinois Infantry, 1865-1866; h/o Mary Ann Easley; reportedly one of three surviving Civil War veterans in Sherman County when he died; 1924 commander of W.T. Sherman Post #4, GAR; buried Rose Cemetery without marker; [Wasco News Enterprise, 31 July 1924].

Wheat, Jacob Boone
1 May 1836/33 Jefferson Co., IN-16 December 1910, 74y 7m 15d; lived Indiana until age 13; to MO with family; May 1861 enlisted in Captain Burrows’ home guard, and in October 1862 in Company K under Captain Thomas Burgess; in the Price raid campaign, skirmishes in MO and AR, Private, Co. Wilson, George Scott

Uncle George [McKay] and family were visiting us...in summer when it was very warm so we were all out in the shade when Dad went into the house and found Ray standing on the little shelf on the cupboard eating sugar out of the sugar bowl...Ray turned around and said, "Tids is in the sugar, Uncle George."
