Sherman County Historical Society and Museum Open Daily 10 until 5 May through October |

The Times Journal 8/28/97 The Sherman County Historical Museum at Moro will again join in the festivities of the Journey Through Time Celebration along with other communities along the 286-mile state award-winning cultural and heritage tour route from Sept. 20-28. The back country route runs from Maryhill Museum of Art on the Columbia River near Biggs through the Oregon communities of Biggs, Wasco, Moro, Grass Valley, Shaniko, Antelope, Fossil, Spray, Kimberly, Dayville, Mt. Vernon, Canyon City, John Day, Prairie City, Austin, Sumpter, and Baker City. Many of these communities will stage events during this period. Festivities planned at the national award-winning
Museum in Moro include
hands-on activities in butter making (for fresh
bread!), old tools, wheat
sack sewing, knitting, tatting, crocheting, genealogy,
embroidery, farm
animals for petting, wagon rides, quilting, weaving,
spinning and cross
stitch. The Mud Springs Gospel Band will play

The Journey Through Time tour route celebrates
people, time, place and
culture. Travelers will find interesting activities
and sites in many
towns along the way, and in between. Following
the opening festivities at
Maryhill Museum of Art in Klickitat County from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept.
20, side trips to the John Day Dam and the Oregon
Trail between Biggs and
Beginning at Wasco, Oregon Trail directional signs
lead travelers east to
the John Day River where wagons and oxen carried
intrepid pioneer across
the river and up a difficult passage onto the
plateau. An interpretive
kiosk tells the story with diary quotes and maps.
Wasco has preserved a
Columbia Southern Rail depot and Moro is home
to the last hot lead print
