The national-award-winning Sherman County Historical Museum and The Museum Store in Moro open for the season on May 1st. Located next to Moro City Park and operated by friendly volunteers, the Museum is open daily from ten until five and serves as the Sherman County Visitor Center.
First-rate exhibits include Oregon Trails, Rails and
Roads in Sherman County, Wheat Through the Ages, Patriotism and Pride, and
Rural Living. Visitors enjoy making rubbings from replica Native
American rock art, practicing weights and measures on scales, riding the
wooden horse named Goldie and dressing up in replica Oregon Trail bonnets,
aprons or vests. New this year are small millstones for hands-on grinding of
grain to flour: soft white winter wheat, hard red spring wheat, rye and
buckwheat.
Plan to celebrate mothers at the Mother's Day Tea with
Jane Kirkpatrick on hand to sign her books on Saturday, May 11, one to three
o'clock. All items in The Museum Store will be reduced 15% for this event
with no admission fee. For more information call 541-565-3232.
