| Contact: Erling Jacobsen 565-3509 or 565-3522 News release. May 22, 2002
We
are pleased to present two speakers: Amanda Justesen, a sophomore at
Sherman High School, will speak on “The History of 4-H in the County.”
Steve Burnet, a farmer/rancher from Moro and President of the Board of
Harvest States Cooperative, will speak about his “Farm Travels.” In
1978, Steve started on the board of directors of North Pacific Grain Growers,
taking the vacated seat of local farmer Dean Pinkerton.
North Pacific Grain Growers became part of Harvest States in 1983 and
Steve continued while serving as chairman for 5 years.
In 1998, Harvest States merged with Cenex and Steve is serving his
third year as chairman. Steve
has traveled to Asia, Europe and Australia with other board members
and recently returned from China and Japan.
He likes to compare the various countries' farming practices, hence the
topic. Please
join us after the meeting for a sneak preview of
the Society's new interpretive exhibit, “Cultivation,
Conservation and Clothespins." The Museum is open daily from ten until
five. Visitors who wish to view the Artist Series, obtain brochures in
the Sherman County Visitor Center or shop in The Museum Store are not charged
admission. For more information call the Museum at 541-565-3232 or check
the Museum web site www.shermanmuseum.org.
