Cathy Brown and Jamie Wilson are featured artists in the monthly series, Sherman County Artists & Artisans, at the Sherman County Historical Museum. Both young women, 1999 Sherman High School graduates, are studying agriculture production at Blue Mountain Community College, where they plan to add photography and art to their course work.
Ms. Brown's remarkable work in black and white photography and Ms. Wilson's fine
work in watercolors complement the Museum's collections. Wilson took
some art classes at Sherman High, a Bishop, CA saddle-making course, and
an art class at Columbia Gorge Community College. She is the daughter of
Rita Wilson of Grass Valley, and Duane Wilson, and grew up at Grass Valley.
The daughter of Wasco area ranchers, Susan and Gary Brown, Ms. Brown started
her photographic hobby with an old family camera and received her first
manual camera on her 18th birthday. She took classes in photography at
Columbia Gorge Community College and Eastern Oregon University where she
enrolled after leaving Sherman High School.
The Sherman County Museum in Moro is open daily from 10 until 5 for a modest
admission fee. Visitors enjoy the interpretive exhibits, Oregon Trails,
Rails and Roads and Wheat Through the Ages, and exhibits on patriotism and
rural living. The park is ideal for picnics and Moro's antique shops are a
block away. Residents of Sherman County are admitted free during July.
Gilliam, Klickitat and Wasco County residents are admitted free in
August.
Museum visitors who wish to view the Artist Series, obtain brochures in the Sherman County Visitor Center or shop in The Museum Store are not charged admission. For more information call the Museum at 541-565-3232 or check the Museum web site, www.shermanmuseum.org.
